The Persistence of Memory

An audiovisual concert with Ali Chakav, performed for the inauguration of the Marl Medienkunstpreis at the Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten, Marl, on October 14th, 2018.

The performance was built around the Telefante box in a completely darkened room: live projections and sound layering memory upon memory in the dark, the projected image the only source of light.

For the ending, the museum’s concierge had been quietly instructed beforehand: at the agreed moment he opened the window — to the surprise of the public and even of the musicians. Daylight flooded the space and washed out the projections in a single stroke. The piece did not fade out; reality interrupted it. The persistence of memory, dissolved by the present.
